Description

This roundtable provided a platform to review the experiences of selected countries in implementing new obligations provided under recent bilateral agreements. Mr. Perdro Roffee initiated the discussions with an introductory presentation on the topic. Professor Frederick Abbott then presented the findings of his recent paper entitled “Intellectual Property Provisions of Bilateral and Regional Trade Agreements in Light of U.S. Federal Law”, produced under the UNCTAD-ICTSD Project on IPRs and Sustainable Development.

The presentation was followed by comments from Maximiliano Santacruz of the Permanent Mission of Chile to the WTO and Raimund Raith of the European Union after which the floor was opened for participants to present their comments and observations.
